The Economic Climate Rating is a 1 - 5 scale of price appreciation potential for the next 6 to 12 months.
The Climate Rating is based on two components:
Based on these two aspects of our analysis we apply the appropriate climate rating to the stock.
Inside TEM Reports you will find two ways to analyze the macroeconomic risk of the stock: general economic risk and specific, MacroRisk Factor related risk.
The Composite Macro-Risk Index (CMRI) measures the overall exposure to the economy. The higher the CMRI the more sensitive the stock price is to changes in the MacroRisk Factors. Technically speaking, the CMRI is the sum of the absolute value of each of the Eta Measures (which are described below).
Eta Measures are where EconomicInvestor risk measurement gets specific. Eta Analysis is based on 18 MacroRisk Factors which together are used in our model to represent the overall economy. Each asset has 18 Eta Measures (one for each of the Factors), which show the sensitivity of the asset to each of the underlying Factors.
The values of the MacroRisk Factors are publicly available and often reported in the news, so when you know which of these Factors your investment is especially sensitive to, you know what to watch for (or diversify away, or hedge against).
On the front page of each TEM Report we show the Economic
Influence
for the stock or fund. This shows how well the Eta Analysis
model fits
the price movements as a percentage. If the Economic
Influence is
91%, that means that over the past 3 years, the economy (as defined by
the MacroRisk Factors in the Eta Analysis model) explains 91% of the
stock price movement.
The remaining 9% is company/industry specific influence.
